Dr Amy Whitehead

Sport and Exercise Psychologist

Amy is a Sport and Exercise Psychologist accredited through the British Psychological Society, and a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) accredited Practitioner Psychologist.

Amy also works as an Associate Professor in Sport Psychology and Coaching at Liverpool John Moores University, and has a PhD in Sport Psychology. With over 50 publications in sport psychology and coaching, Amy is passionate about evidenced based practice and underpinning everything she does.

Amy has been working as an applied Sport and Exercise Psychologist for over 15 years and supports a wide range of athletes, coaches, and organizations; from professional football teams, to Olympic Medalists, to recreational athletes. She also has a mixed sporting background, having been a high-level junior tennis player, a national league basketballer, ultra-marathon runner and more recently, triathlete. Amy has competed in full Ironman distance (IM UK), 70.3, and the European Championships standard distance triathlon.

Amy’s approach puts the client at the centre of the work, and the sessions allow space for individuals to make sense of their situations. Life, sport and training are not independent from one another, and Amy recognises that an improved well-being is important for improved performance – whether that is trying to run your first 10k or preparing for a world championship race.
